Timor – Leste is one of the developing countries that is still food insecure. Many people in the rural areas of Timor are still living in poverty and around seventy percent of the population rely on subsistence farming for their livelihoods.
This situation is a direct result of low agricultural and livestock productivity and lack of knowledge about essential nutrients for growth and health. When visiting rural and remote areas of Timor, this situation is evident. In Railaco, a parish administered by the Jesuits, has been facing the of food insecurity incidence. In time, the Railaco Mission of the Jesuits plan to help alleviate this situation through social programs and also other initiatives.
