Welcome to Sydney Street Choir

COMMUNITY FROM DAVID”S PLACE &
SYDNEY STREET CHOIR
WELCOMED AT ST CANICE”S

The parishioners of St Canice’s welcomed members of ‘David’s Place’, and we were reminded that the place of the poor is a privileged place to “begin again” to learn to forgive, to be forgiven, to learn not to judge, to find joy in simple things, to value friendship over possessions, status and “being right”.

David’s Place celebrate the Eucharist with the Cardinal each year and they tell us that this reminds them of the possibility, joy and freedom that can be theirs in the church when they sing the Lord’s song from the place of the poor.

Today, we are St Canice’s are invited to join them to “contemplate the face of Christ” present to us as we gather together ‘in community’.

After Mass, members of the Sydney Street Choir entertained us with rousing ‘Spirituals’ and other familiar songs from the steps of the church while others of their group served us with morning tea. We were honoured to be guests at their concert!
